Video Audition Requirements

PIANO

Make sure the keyboard, pedals and student are all clearly visible on the video. Piano Lid on full stick if possible. Announce the scale and arpeggio keys chosen and the name of the solo piece.

 Scales and Arpeggios

4 Major and Minor Scales and Arpeggios (in octaves) in progressive rhythms. Student can choose which keys to play to 16th or triplets at a speed of quarter note= 112. 

Solo of less than 4 minutes- Student's choice

Sight-reading- Send request for excerpt to nccmi.beilman@gmail.com

 SIGHT-READING INSTRUCTIONS

·         For sight-reading, someone should hand the excerpt to student while on camera because they cannot practice it before video is made. 

·         Student can have 30 seconds to study the excerpt and check a metronome for the specified tempo, then play through it. 

·         Take another 30 seconds to study it once more. Then play through again.

 STRINGS

Make the video with the player's instrument (f-holes) facing the camera, so that the music stand does not obstruct the viewer. Announce the key of the scale and the name of the solo piece.

     3 octave Scale (4 slurred notes, with the octave notes doubled)
