By Caroline Smyth

Grant Llewellyn, the Music Director Laureate of the North Carolina Symphony, taught our last masterclass of the year on May 2nd. He zoomed in from his home in Wales and was able to coach five NCCMI ensembles–the Toccata, Releve, and Arioso string quartets as well as the Harmonia Piano Quartet and Trio Serio. This was an extremely exciting opportunity to reconnect with Llewellyn, who also taught an NCCMI-sponsored orchestral masterclass in the spring of 2019.

“Playing for Maestro Llewellyn was truly an honor! We have watched him conduct the North Carolina Symphony since childhood—his symphonic performances have always been remarkable. To meet him, have him listen to us play, and receive valuable feedback was an experience we will remember for the rest of our lives.”

— Max Yates, a senior and member of Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition semi-finalist group Trio Serio
